The text drawing tool was MCP-only; the copilot needs the same
capability and its area-annotation helper carried the same Web UI
compat bugs. Split into three layers with a single implementation:
- gns3server/utils/drawings.py: pure SVG builders (text, rectangle,
ellipse) with full input validation (ValueError) — the Web UI
format knowledge lives in core utils next to picture.py
- api_handlers.py: shared REST handlers (create_text_drawing_handler
moved here, create_rectangle/ellipse_drawing_handler added) — the
layer both consumers already share
- thin shells: MCP tools (drawing_create_text unchanged, plus new
drawing_create_rectangle/_ellipse) and three LangChain tools
(tools_v2/gns3_create_drawing.py) registered in both copilot mode
lists
Shape builder details:
- rectangle: solid fill or "none", stroke block emitted only when a
stroke is given, rx corner radius, dasharray validated against the
Web UI's Qt remap table (QtDasharrayFixer rewrites those patterns)
- ellipse: bounding-box API; cx/cy derived as offsets inside the
drawing box (the Web UI treats them as box-relative, not canvas
coordinates); odd sizes round down and the actual size is returned
gns3_drawing_utils now delegates to the shared builders, fixing the
px-blind sizing, the ignored text-anchor/x/y centering and the
missing XML escaping in the area-annotation path.
Compute:
- Track the anchor that owns uBridge's single AF_PACKET capture slot: a
second kernel port's capture is refused with a clear error (its flag
rolled back), a failed start no longer wedges the port, and only the
owning port's stop issues the process-wide `capture stop_kernel`
(docker/qemu/iou/dynamips/switch, via the mixin's slot helpers).
- Unwind failed starts instead of leaking uBridge and the anchor TAPs:
QEMU's stop body runs under try/finally, QEMU and IOU start the datapath
inside the launch try, Dynamips undoes a half-attached port (the retry
used to be short-circuited into a silent black hole), and Docker deletes
the veth pair when the namespace move fails.
- Restore the relay filter guard on IOU (kernel-only filters raise
NodeError, an uncompilable BPF line degrades to a warning), validate the
eBPF/quota/window/bpf filter shapes before touching the bridge (short or
non-numeric values surfaced as 500s after partial state), and refuse a
second NIO on an occupied Docker/QEMU port (the guard IOU and Dynamips
already had).
- Probe fixes: `_probe_bridge_tap` survives a failing uBridge start, and
the probe caches key on ctime too, so a chmod/setcap remedy re-probes.
Controller:
- Parse GNS3_UNIX_SOCKET_NIO like the compute does (line-anchored, truthy
value) and mirror the compute's class selection in kernel_anchor_type.
- Read partial capability reports defensively; make BridgeNIO.bridge
required-but-nullable so an omitted key is a 422 rather than a KeyError.
- Strip the packet_loss correlation slot even when it is zero: the relay
filter takes exactly one argument and rejected `packet_loss 10 0`.
Ethernet switch: skip ports whose absorbed anchor does not exist yet (the
join is deferred by design) and roll the ports_mapping back when the VLAN
reconcile fails, so a retry still diffs against the old mapping.
Agent: reject device config entries without a device_name instead of
silently dropping them (a malformed batch used to execute partially while
reporting success).
Also split the netem builder to clear C901 and drop the two per-file ruff
ignores the PR had added, keeping the remove-only policy.
The rebase onto upstream 3.1 (mypy + ruff I001/F401 waves) left the tree
short of the newly enforced baselines in three ways:
* contextlib / UbridgeError imports dropped as false duplicates during
conflict resolution left NameErrors in iou_vm and qemu_vm (F821);
the Dynamips router grabbed the compute-level NIOTAP instead of the
hypervisor one, breaking TAP anchoring (test failure).
* unused imports (KERNEL_UNSUPPORTED_FILTERS, UbridgeError, List) and
unsorted blocks left behind where the stack's later commits moved the
last usage elsewhere — ruff I001/F401/RUF022 now enforce these.
* mypy, now baseline-free: cache dict annotations in tc_probe, the
locators candidate list, the resolved-params None branch in the MCP
runner, and validate_bpf_syntax keeps the upstream Dict[str, Any]
return (the strict Optional[str] was wrong for the "valid" bool entry).
The e2e raw-frame probe resolves its compiler via shutil.which (S607)
and zips with strict= (B905); the remaining subprocess call is S603 by
nature and gets a per-file ignore like other test files.
ruff check/format clean, mypy at upstream parity (no new errors),
full unit suite 2167 passed.
A batch carrying the same device twice lost all but the last entry's
commands: the per-device command map kept only the last entry while
result processing iterated every original entry, so each row reported
the last entry's output under its own command list.
c3c78f99a consolidated the merge into the MCP template renderer, but
that only runs when a template is passed — the MCP direct-commands
path and gns3-copilot's direct _run path were left uncovered.
Normalize once in each tool's _run (single point covering all entry
paths, restoring the c42b3a59b coverage) and keep the renderer merge
as boundary normalization. Blocked-command info now also accumulates
across same-device entries instead of last-winning in the per-device
map.
The tool descriptions have always advertised kernel_datapath as a
requestable field, but the handler's whitelist did not contain it: asking
for it was rejected as an invalid field, so the MCP clients could not see
which links run on kernel interfaces at all.
Also record what seeding a netem experiment on IOU costs: IOL emits its own
CDP/keepalive frames and they draw from the netem RNG stream, so a
seeded run only reproduces after `no cdp run` (verified bit-identical pcaps).
Three fixes from live-calibrating the kernel impairment filters on an
isolated instance (Docker-to-Docker veth link, per-sequence evidence):
- update_filters skipped an unchanged filters dict as a no-op, so a
one-shot window_drop outage that had already passed could never be
re-armed: re-applying the same values produced no datapath command at
all. A PUT still carrying window_drop now reconciles, restarting the
schedule from the apply as documented. Measured: identical re-apply
moves the outage window from seq 50-70 to 70-91 (arm at +8s of the
new apply).
- gemodel parameter semantics were documented backwards in the
validation rules, available_filters, the MCP/copilot descriptions and
the feature docs. Measured against the kernel (per-direction counters,
offered = sent + dropped): p is the good-to-bad transition chance, r
the bad-to-good transition, 1-h the loss chance in the bad state (the
good state loses nothing) - mean one-way loss p/(p+r)*(1-h), e.g.
[10,30,100] -> 24.8%/25.7% measured vs 25% predicted, [5,45,100] ->
10.8% both ways vs 10%.
- kernel_datapath was silently stripped from every REST/MCP link payload
by the response model (LinkBase carried no such field), so clients
could not tell a kernel link from a relay one.
Also verified on the same setup: the 3-argument window_drop form works
exactly as specified ([3000,5000,100] -> a single seq 31-55 outage,
[20000,6000,100] -> seq 115-144), and both generations of the command
builder emit the parameters unpadded.
Adds an API test for the field and controller tests for the no-op skip
and the window_drop re-arm exemption.
link_update, link_available_filters and the copilot packet-filter tool
still advertised the pre-kernel-datapath five types. List the full
thirteen with positional parameter formats, ranges and kernel-only
marking, point at link_available_filters as the per-link authority
(topology + compute capability gated), and document window_drop's
apply-relative schedule restart. Also add kernel_datapath to the link
field lists.
Description-only: handlers pass filters through unchanged.
The waiting variant blocked on a fixed progress bar (up to 120s) even
when every start command had already failed (e.g. the uBridge >= 1.2.3
409), burying the error behind two minutes of silence. Drop it: the
single start_gns3_node now sends the commands and returns per-node
results immediately (GNS3StartNodeQuickTool kept as an alias). Boot
waiting moves to a dedicated wait_seconds tool the agent calls
explicitly between start and status checks, with a 600s ceiling and
liveness logging every 5s.
link_capture_download and get_symbol embedded a 10-min JWT in the
Authorization header of the curl command they return; LLM clients
retyping that command corrupted the long token — the same failure
class as the console WebSocket URLs fixed in the previous commit.
Generalize the ticket store (console_tickets.py -> access_tickets.py,
ConsoleTicketService -> AccessTicketService): a ticket now binds to
either a node's console endpoints (WebSocket, matched against route
path params) or one exact REST resource path (capture file, symbol
image). The two binding modes are isolated — a node-bound ticket
cannot authenticate a REST resource and vice versa.
get_user_from_token redeems path-bound tickets through the existing
token parameter / Bearer header, matched exactly against
request.url.path, then reuses the shared user lookup and token_version
revocation checks. Download URLs embed ?token=<ticket> and the curl
commands no longer carry a Bearer header.
LLM clients transcribing the console WebSocket URL into shell commands
reliably corrupted the ~200-char JWT embedded in it (dropped header
segment -> "MissingAlgorithmError: Missing 'alg' value in header" on
every connection attempt). The node_console tool now mints a short
random ticket ("gns3t_" + 16 urlsafe chars, 10 min TTL, multi-use)
stored server-side and bound to the node's console endpoints:
- new ConsoleTicketService (gns3server/services/console_tickets.py),
in-memory store with lazy expiry sweeps
- get_current_active_user_from_websocket redeems tickets through the
existing "token" query parameter, gated on websocket.path_params so a
ticket only authenticates the console/ws and console/vnc routes of
the node it was minted for; the JWT path is unchanged
- redemption reuses the existing user lookup, token_version revocation
and is_active checks, so logging out invalidates outstanding tickets
- vnc_url no longer embeds the full session JWT
- the tool docstring now tells clients to run the returned command
verbatim instead of reconstructing the URL
The device tools reported failures in three shapes: topology-level
entries with only an error key, per-device entries with status 'error'
plus the reason under output (VPCS tool only), and raw exceptions
leaking out of template rendering. Every in-band error entry now
carries status 'failed' and an error message, and invalid Jinja2
templates are reported in-band instead of escaping the handler.
VPCS syntax typed into another node's console is silently discarded
(IOS answers % Invalid input) while the tool still reports success.
get_device_ports_from_topology now carries the GNS3 node type through
to callers, and VPCSCommands fails device preparation with a per-device
error unless the node type is vpcs.
The controller assigns default names (R-1, R-2, ...) and console ports
in request arrival order. A parallel batch fan-out lets thread scheduling
decide that order, so the first submitted node could end up as R-2.
Batches that rely on default naming (any node without a name) are now
created sequentially; batches with explicit names stay parallel. The
node_create tool description documents the ordering semantics and tells
callers to correlate nodes by node_id.
